Ahmedabad is home to the famous Sabarmati Ashram and represents peace and harmony. But in the present scenario, that peace is threatened by mounting poverty, religious divisions and lack of infrastructure. Teach For India Alumni in Ahmedabad boldly carry on the baton for change. As the centre grows, we develop widespread learning centres, and comprehensive programmes to improve educational opportunities. Since 2014, Teach For India in Ahmedabad has united forces with the city to encourage change in Students’ lives. Today, Ahmedabad has 12 Alumni fiercely championing holistic education, student voice and school development in a diverse set of schools. Through their partnership with Teach For India, principals of these schools are highly invested in the mission of providing an excellent education to their Students. They work closely with Staff, Fellows, and Alumni with an eye on the future and with plans on how to change it. There are Student success stories that Ahmedabad is host to, one of which is Community Library. Two such libraries were set up by 5th graders from Tejendra school catering to 70+ children and young adults. In 2018, Ahmedabad had just 7 Alumni join under-resourced private and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) schools as Assistant School Leaders (ASLs). Along the way, we are being met with a lot of heart through support for this transformation where our ASLs impact about 2,100 Students.
